So those of you that know me pretty well know that I’m a coffee addict. I consider a tall dark roast the nectar of the gods. Well…I’ve decided to kick the habit. I’m gonna quit coffee. This whole crazy idea started last week. I got back from Calgary last Sunday. I was coming down with a cold. On Monday I was totally bedridden. I had the flu and a pounding headache. I couldn’t get out of bed, not even to get my daily does of caffeinated pleasure. I’m guessing this amplified the headache. You see, regular users of coffee or other caffeinated products experience caffeine withdrawal when they stop consuming their cherished bevarage. This was happening to me. It was that day of agony, when my body was terrorizing my head, trying to convince it to buy a Café Verona, that I decided that I would have no more of it and that I’d quit drinking coffee.
Today I’m feeling pretty good. My cold is almost gone, just an annoying cough. I got through the morning with a cup of decaffeinated tea. I’m daydreaming about my upcoming roadtrip. On March 11th me and four others (Sarah, Sean, and JJ) will be flying to Vegas. From there we’ll head to Bishop and to Joe’s Valley in a rental car. We’ll get about 10 days of bouldering in and then fly to Calgary for the TDB Boulder Regionals. Just this past weekend I competed at the Hangout for a local TDB comp. Oh man, did I ever suck. I probably just shouldn’t have competed. I was super weak from the cold I was trying to kick, which also resulted in me not climbing for the week previous. I guess that’s my excuse, we’ll see if it’s legit when I’m tested again at the comp in Nanaimo on March 10th.
