Okay, okay. I took a leave of absence, but now I’m back. Life’s deck has dealt me a few distractions over the last few months. Early in January my condo was broken into and many loved possessions were taken from me including my camera. I have insurance, but it’s been a long ongoing process to replace my goods. A week before that some blind guy backed into my parked car, but at least he was man enough to find me in the gym and fess up. On the up side, it turns out good hands are dealt too. For instance, this morning I found two aces in the pocket. Each ace representing two days of perfect conditions in Squamish this weekend.
Today the bouldering was great. I climbed mostly with two guys that I really enjoy being around: Matt Lucas and Tim Schaufele. We spent some time at Gibb’s Cave and Worm World Cave, then circuited on some easier problems to kill the day. It was still light enough to climb until 5:30pm – the short depressing winter days are only getting longer!
If any of you readers are thinking of climbing on Sunday: DO IT!!! You won’t regret it one bit.
I would also like to proudly congratulate Sean McColl for his podium finish at the ABS Nationals in Boulder, CO this weekend. He stood in 3rd spot beside Daniel Woods and Paul Robinson. Us Canadians climbers, especially competition climbers, need to recognize what Sean has done for this sport in Canada. He really is Canada’s poster boy for climbing. If it weren’t for the huge shadows casted by Sharma, Woods, Robinson and other top American climbers, McColl would be a name heard more often. Tell me if I’m taking it too far in saying that we all have our climbing heroes (many choose Sharma), but if we were limited to Canadian climbers, Sean would be the guy.
Edit: I know, I know. You guys will argue that Sonnie is Canada’s climbing hero, but I’m thinking more about competition climbing here.
Anyways, you can tell how psyched I am for Sean’s perfomance this weekend. I can’t wait to hear Sean’s personal account after he sobers up from the after party.

Dude today was awesome too! You should play hooky from work on Wednesday. And if any of Jamie’s bosses or fellow employees read this his unexplained illness on Wednesday is completely unrelated to this comment. Cheers.
