YWC 2010
The Youth World Championships are happening in Edinburgh, Scotland this year from September 9th – 12th. You’ll want to view the following info pages:
- The IFSC Climbing page. Results and running orders can be found here.
- The Official YWC 2010 website.
- Live web streaming.
- The Facebook page.
I will be attempting to get results for Canadian climbers posted on this site as quickly as possible. It depends if I can get wifi access in the facility. Check back to this page regularly to see updates about how our days have been going. (All referenced dates/times on this page are in the Edinburgh timezone) I encourage you to post comments on this page to show your support!

September 7th and 8th – Updated 2010-09-08 11:30pm
We’ve spent the last two days getting settled in our wonderful hostel – the Globetrotter Inn. Yesterday we climbed at the local gym (not the competition facility) and today we visited a castle in the center of Edinburgh. Our team so far has been adapting well. I’d say everyone is pretty much over their jet-lag, although tonight people were pretty tired. Everyone is in bed now after having a team meeting. We’re all in comp mode and the business starts tomorrow!

Qualifiers are nearly finished, I should have the results up in a few more hours. Our kids are mostly in good spirits. For many of them the pressure of having to climb another route is now gone and they can just enjoy the rest of the weekend. Speed climbing qualifiers are approaching, which most of our kids enjoy participating in. I’ll try to get a few pics posted of our speed climbing costumes. We might have a couple people advancing to the semi-final round, but it’s still too early to tell. I’ll announce that as soon as possible!

We’re on a break between semi-finals and finals. Elise and Elan climbed this morning. They finished the competition in 24th place and 11th place, respectively. I want to say that Elan’s climb was great. He made it three moves from the top and if he was super close to advancing to finals. If he had held onto the hold he tagged, he would have been in the top 8. But that’s nothing to be concerned about because Elan and the rest of us were super happy with how he climbed. Elan told me that he didn’t think he could do much better and that he didn’t feel super nervous on his route. I’m super proud with how Elan climbed. Anyways, we’re off to watch finals now!
